There is growing interest in intellectual property, especially patents, among researchers on college and university campuses. Shrinking educational budgets is a major reason for such interest. It is hoped that protection and commercialization of intellectual property of these researchers can result in securing much needed resources to better support academic missions of institutions of higher learning and to match compensation of employees of such institutions with their counterparts in other segments of society.
